Lost reindeer and a beardless Santa
Rudolf was out in front, but alas his light had failed to shine! Santa’s sleigh was not guided tonight. What would they do? The famous reindeer felt at a loss…should they go forwards or back? Somehow they got started, I still don’t know how, maybe it was the smell of the cookies and milk. When Santa climbed into his red, dashing sleigh, one which might have been mistaken for a wagon, he was off with a flurry and flash and a great flutter. The prancing group, with antlers all lopsided, landed on the rooftop of the house. The very still mouse, you know the one who is not stirring, was very much confused for I saw him exit right of that house! Santa heaves as he lets out a, “Ho Ho Ho” and he piles on out of his sleigh, but Santa (gasp) is not Santa! His hat has slid off and oh the agony of it, his beard came off too, revealing a mouth that is not surrounded by whiskers like Saint Nick should have. Santa has recovered from the trauma of being revealed and as he slides down the chimney, or hops into it I should say, he heaves and he hos as he pulls on his bag filled with toys. But Santa can’t do it alone, where is his helper the trusted elf? Santa’s helper is not helping, what shall we do? The elf is just sitting, not scurrying and hurrying as they normally do. A reminder, that was all that he needed, now he is all in a flutter. Santa hops out of the chimney all proud and defiant, who can prove that he isn’t the real thing? They line up, they take a bow (the deaf and hard of hearing program in the elementary school) the Christmas program is over. Another year of performing the “Night Before Christmas” has been successfully done, well, uh, finished at any rate. The crowd breaks out in applause, all six of us. We are smiling and proud at this thing called a play. The kids are too cute and that is all that matters, so they say.
